NEW! The Jewelry Box Series: Featuring Bohemian Jewelry for Spring 2018

Introducing: The Jewelry Box

There are some changes coming down the pipeline over here at Zurina Ketola Designs, and one of those changes is my goal to write more and have a more active blog.  I’ve been busy brainstorming regular topics since the beginning of the year, and have some fun new regular feature posts coming down the line. My favorite thing about this? The inspiration came from you, my very own customers! I love chatting with people, and have been thinking back to common customer inquiries that I could try and answer or expand upon. With that in mind, say hello to my new Jewelry Box series!

Over the years, there is one situation that comes up a lot that seemed like a fun place to start. The inspiration behind this new Jewelry Box series began with customers asking about how to build their personal jewelry collection and what specific pieces to add to their to their jewelry box that fits a certain style or look. First up? Bohemian style!

Bohemian Jewelry for Spring 2018

One of my favorite things about bohemian fashions are the soft, flowing fabrics, and the beautiful bright colors and prints. For those of you that know me, I am not afraid of color! I can honestly say it’s gone to my head at this point… After all, over the last few years I’ve been rocking unicorn hair, and have had my hair pretty much ever color of the rainbow. One thing that’s surprised me about the look? The versatility! I can move from modern and simple to artsy bohemian more easily than I realized. While my designer jewelry style is most often described as delicate and dainty, I do make quite a few pieces that fit in beautifully for those of you that want that bohemian vibe in your jewelry box.

Must Have: Turquoise

Turquoise is such a striking stone, and it definitely comes to mind as an absolute must have for all you bohemian babes out there! I lived in Arizona for several years, and one of my absolute favorite things about the desert was the turquoise! Arizona is the home of the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, the largest show of its kind in the world. It’s a truly special sight to behold. Vendors from every corner of the world take the annual sojourn to buy and sell their goods. Even thought I’ve moved away, I still make annual trips back so I can find the best turquoise available!

I’m always looking for high quality stones with interesting and unusual details. Most of the time, I prefer that pure vibrant shade of turquoise blue with no matrix or veining, but every so often that perfect shape comes along that draws me in! This turquoise crescent moon necklace is a perfect example. This turquoise does indeed showcase that brilliant turquoise color, and has a little bit of  matrix and veining. I was going for a more artistic and bohemian vibe with this necklace, so these totally hit the mark.

Unexpected and Complimentary Color: Lavender Phosphosiderite Post Earrings

Bohemian style always makes me thing of warm, sunny places, whether it’s a desert or a lush tropical paradise! I tend to see a lot of of beautiful neutrals and colors with that style, and I love the way these phosphosiderite earrings can be effortlessly brought into the mix. The most striking thing about these is that incredible lavender color! I had never seen a natural stone that featured this shade or purple before, so when I came across them a while back I snatched as many as I could!

These are almost entirely lavender, but there are some that have a beautiful golden yellow matrix, which is quite pretty. I prefer the pure purple shade because it complements the design better. So lush and pretty, these look absolutely divine on any skin tone! It’s available in silver or 14K rose gold fill as well, but I’m personally partial to the warmth the 14K yellow gold brings with it.

Wrist Candy: Matte Quartz Crystal Mala Inspired Bangle

No jewelry look is complete without a little wrist candy! Bracelets are a big part of boho style, and I love the look of this mala inspired matte quartz crystal bangle. Not only does it look great alone, but it’s neutral enough to pair with other bracelets, and pairs well with other styles in a heartbeat. Quartz jewelry looks great on any skin tone, which makes it  a versatile piece of jewelry to have.

One of my favorite things about this style is the matte finish crystal beads. Typically you’ll see a highly polished or faceted bead. They may look  a little subdued and even simple, but I find when I wear these I am always playing around with the bracelet so I can feel the surface texture of the beads. It’s so relaxing and almost meditative in a way, which I love.

Don’t Forget that Colorful Bohemian Bracelet Stack!

For a real bohemian edge, you gotta pile on those bracelets! I switch between a few designs on a daily basis for the perfect bracelet stack, and these are just a few of my favorites. Depending on my mood and outfit of the day, I’m always mixing and matching those stacks for the perfect look. Take a peek at these beautiful handmade bracelets below! Featuring my original leather prosperity bracelet, beaded bracelet, lapis mala bracelet, and leather bangle.

As much as I love color, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to show it off.  My secret weapon for making my colorful handmade jewelry pop? Strategically chosen neutral shades like blush and buff seen above. They’re chic on their own, but they can really shine when paired with bright colors.
