Meet Jewelry Designer Zurina Ketola
While my educational background is in the biological sciences, I’ve had a lifelong fascination with creative endeavors, including music, dance, photography, fashion, and of course, jewelry. I’ve always been drawn to the small details and the artistic side of life, so it’s no surprise that I would make my way into the field of jewelry design. As a girl, I remember pouring through old pictures of my mom as a young woman and was inspired to recreate her effortless style. When no one was watching, I’d sneak off into her closet, dig into her jewelry box and play dress up.
Those secret little adventures in fashion made a lasting impression on me, and I eventually became enamored with the idea of creating and wearing things made by hand. Not only did I enjoy working with my hands, but I had a good eye for color and small details. These traits lent themselves well to life as a budding jewelry designer, and in my early twenties, I finally took the plunge and began to learn the ins and outs of the trade.
During those early years, I was admittedly obsessed. I created more than I could wear, and began expanding my range to give handmade jewelry as gifts to friends and family on special occasions. After a couple years of refining my aesthetic and technique, Zurina Ketola Designs officially launched in 2004.
Armed with a rebellious spirit and refined sensibility, I search for materials with beautifully intricate details to showcase in my designs. My collection has evolved over the years, but my initial philosophy still remains relevant to this day. Rooted in timeless versatility, my jewelry combines grace and simplicity with a refined feminine edge.
P.S. – I’ve Moved to Berlin!
In the summer of 2018, my husband and I packed our life in Chicago and decided to make our dream of living in Europe a reality! Now that I’m settled with a new studio, the online shop has officially re-opened.
