Why hello there! I’m Zurina, the designer behind the jewelry here at Zurina Ketola Designs. It dawned on me a couple weeks ago that I’ve never taken the opportunity to really introduce myself. I figured now would be the perfect time to share a little bit about myself and tell the story behind my jewelry and how it all came to be! This holiday season has shaped up to be a great one over here at Zurina Ketola Designs. This is our first holiday season with the new site, and I’m so thrilled! Since this time of year is busy for everyone, I made sure that the site would be optimized for mobile devices, which is a great way to maximize your time and shop on the go. There has definitely been a flurry of activity in the studio, but don’t forget, Christmas is fast approaching! My current lead time for order fulfillment is approximately two days. Your order will ship via USPS Priority Mail, which advertises that the service can get your package to you within 1-3 days, depending on where you are. Naughty + Nice Gift Bags are Now Available!
This season is in full swing, and in that spirit, I have some exciting news! During the holidays over the last few years, I’ve noticed frantic shoppers looking for something they can’t seem to find anywhere. Curated gift sets featuring a range of handmade goods from a variety of small batch artisans and businesses. It seemed like a great idea to get everything together in a perfect little package, ready for giving, so I started taking a look around to see what was out there. In my search, I found sets that were really cute, but mass produced. For artisan goods, the closest thing I could find was getting multiples from a single source. This seemed pretty close, and it’s something I do with my jewelry. But even with this as an option people were still looking for more. I took note, since it seemed like a project worth pursuing. I’ve been looking into it ever since, and I’m so glad I did! Over the last couple months, I’ve been working with an incredible group of talented artists, makers and small businesses to bring you two awesome, limited edition Artist Collection Naughty and Nice Gift Bags just in time for the holidays! A Second Look
Everything can use a little update every now and then, and I make it a point evaluate my signature handmade jewelry designs regularly. One of the most important parts of my job as a jewelry designer is listening to customer feedback to see where things might need attention. The approach will often depend on the product itself. In some cases it can mean discontinuing a product, and other times it means taking a second look and updating a design. The latter is the best approach to take when the jewelry in question is especially popular with customers, and is the path I’ve taken with my crochet cotton and prosperity bracelet design updates. I’ll be selling my handcrafted jewelry designs at Randolph Street Market‘s Indie Designer Mart this weekend! My booth will be set up Saturday, October 28th and Sunday, October 29th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with some of my newest and best selling jewelry designs in tow! This is one of my favorite Chicago markets to attend. It happens on a monthly basis at Plummer’s Hall, which is just west of downtown Chicago. I started selling my jewelry there a couple years ago, and always look forward to coming back! It’s such a blast – I love the atmosphere, meeting both new and repeat customers, visiting with some of my favorite local Chicago vendors, and of course taking a moment to walk the market myself to see what’s new. Read on to find out about the sales I’ll be offering at the show! Continue reading “Best Selling Jewelry on Sale at Randolph Street Market 10/28-10/29 🛍”
Learning to Photograph my Handcrafted Jewelry
A major goal for me over the last year was to finally get the jewelry website up and running, which gave me a lot of motivation to brush up and expand my photography skills. As a self taught jewelry designer and lover of all things creative, I really wanted to learn how to take beautiful pictures to showcase my jewelry. From the beginning, way back in 2002, I’ve been taking pictures for my business and learning how to improve my pictures. As much as I enjoy the process of learning, at the time I quickly discovered that photographing jewelry has very specific challenges. Attempting to capture all those small, intricate details and colors can be quite difficult. Especially if you don’t know anything about photography in the first place, which described my situation pretty well when I started. But you gotta start somewhere, right? It’s that time of year again! As fun as Chicago summers are, my heart always and forever belongs to the fall season. I can’t describe it, there’s just something about the brisk weather and falling leaves that always seems to recharge my creative senses. Considering my busiest time of year is straight ahead, that’s one heck of a happy coincidence! As the temperature dips, you can bet that I’m breaking out my coziest sweaters and boots. You’ll most likely find me in the studio making jewelry, filling orders, and generally working the days away with a yummy beverage by my side. ☕
While I’m really looking forward to all of the above, the fall season tends to bring on warm fuzzies for me in general because it’s filled with major milestones and celebrations for my jewelry business. Along with the launch of my brand new handcrafted jewelry site in late September this year, I’m also incredibly excited to be celebrating my showroom’s third anniversary at the Andersonville Galleria over Andersonville Arts Week! To help celebrate the occasion, I’ll be offering 10% off your ZKD jewelry purchase at Galleria this weekend from Friday, October 13th – Sunday, October 15th! The summer is winding down, and while I definitely had a few setbacks which delayed the website, I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that we’ve finally launched. And just in time for the fall season, no less! If you’re in Chicago, it’s hard not to feel like we’re in the middle of summer right now, but don’t let that fool you! We’re fast approaching the busiest season of the year for us small batch brands and independent makers. Now is the perfect time to get a head start on your holiday shopping! Continue reading “Celebrate Our Launch with 20% Off Your Order!”
Well hello again! These last few years with my shop at the Andersonville Galleria have been so amazing. I’ve spent time getting to know a ton of incredible people, both customers and artists alike. Everyone has been so supportive of me and my work, which really inspired me to update the site. This has been in the works since December 2016, and I’m absolutely thrilled that it’s finally up and running! Continue reading “Hello Again!”
